Nevada LIVE

The State of Nevada created the Nevada LIVE program (Liability Insurance Validation Electronically) to help stop the problem of uninsured motorists. The program helps identify such motorists by way of a computer system linked with auto insurance companies in Nevada.

With Nevada LIVE, the Department of Motor Vehicles can successfully identify vehicle registration records that show insurance was terminated, with no new insurance issued. If a motorist drops insurance coverage, they are first asked to verify insurance coverage. Then, if the Department of Motor Vehicles gets no response or can't validate the coverage, a certified letter is sent to the owner and the registration is then suspended.

The law enforcement officers in Nevada are required to take the license plate of any motor vehicle with a suspended registration. The vehicle may also be impounded by the officer.

In order to reinstate a registration that was suspended for being uninsured, the motorist must provide current evidence of insurance and pay a reinstatement fee of $250. However, if the motorist can prove that the motor vehicle was not driven during the period in which it was not insured, and that there were circumstances beyond the control of the motorist, it is possible for the reinstatement fee to be reduced to $50.

Nevada State Required Minimum Coverage

The State of Nevada requires that drivers have auto liability insurance policies which contain a minimum coverage amount of $15,000 for bodily injury to one person or the death of one person in any one accident.

The law also requires that a minimum amount of $30,000 be carried for bodily injury or death to any two or more individuals in any one accident.

Lastly, the state law also requires that drivers carry a minimum of $10,000 for injury and/or damage to the property of others in any one accident. It should be noted that this insurance coverage must be proven and validated by an insurance company that is authorized to do business in the State of Nevada.

Report Changes

If anything changes concerning your automobile insurance, it is advisable that you notify the Department of Motor Vehicles right away.

If there is a ONE DAY lapse in the insurance coverage of a vehicle, that can lead to a possible suspension of the vehicle's registration, which would then require a fee of $250 be paid to reinstate the suspended registration. There is absolutely NO grace period in the State of Nevada.

Your insurance company can report the changes, or you can report the changes. Here is a list of some changes that need to be reported to DMV:

* The name of your insurance company exactly as it appears on the verification card

* The policy number exactly as it appears on the card

* The beginning date of coverage

* The expiration date of coverage

How to Compare Car Insurance:

If you are going to compare quotes from various insurance companies, be sure you are comparing apples-to-apples and oranges-to-oranges. To do that, you will need to know how the separate portions of the insurance coverage are being priced.

When comparing Company B to Company T, you can't just look at the two quotes and decide on Co. B because the quote is cheaper. If Co. B is only quoting for $15,000 of bodily liability insurance, but Co. T is quoting for $25,000 of bodily liability coverage, of course the quote would be cheaper with Co. B. But you are not getting the same amount of liability coverage. If Co. T gave you a quote for the same coverage, their quote might beat Co. B.

You should also look into the area of deductibles when comparing quotes. If one company's quote shows a deductible of $250 for collision coverage, but another company shows a deductible of $100 for collision coverage, that will not let you accurately compare the two quotes.

We trust you have gained information that will be helpful to you in choosing the right insurance.

Remember to input your zip code above to access quotes that will help you find the best company at the right price
